A new lamp is based on the genes from his two ancestors. At random genes are copied from the ancestors, until a full genome is formed. In this process mutations can occur, the chance of this happening is one to seven. When mutation occurs, it’s not a select value from one of the ancestors that is translated, but a random value within the reach of the particular gene.

Once every three months a new generation of lamps is released. When adopted, the new generation is presented on the opening page of www.theselfishgene.nl.

The lamp population can survive as long as a minimum of two lamps per generations is being ordered. If this is not the case, the lamp will become extinct.
